Bailey is a 22 year old young lady that was born 6 weeks premature with Down Syndrome and spent the first 3 months of her life in the I.C.U. At only 6 hours old she underwent surgery for Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia Repair, Feeding tube, & Colostomy bag. She was on an arsenal of medications, 8 of which were intended to be lifelong, as were the G-Tube and Colostomy Bag. With incredible medical and community support, and the True Grace of God, Bailey is 100% drug/ medication free and now has no medical issues. Bailey began to hit her benchmarks and milestones pretty much on target with her “nondisabled” peers. She was able to attend preschool in an inclusive environment. After preschool, she attended public school with Frisco I.S.D. and after 12th grade was accepted into the Frisco I.S.D. Step Beyond Vocational Training program. This allowed her the opportunity to go into the community to learn both life and job skills.
Bailey has been part of a well-structured volunteer program and was selected into a 3 year Paid Internship at Baylor Scott and White Hospital Frisco. After completing the Internship at Baylor, she starting a job training program at PDQ Chicken and Salads in Frisco and loves her job! She works the dining room, drive thru, and helps prepare supplies for the next work shift. Her strong points at work are her customer service skills and she can make an outstanding handmade milkshake.
Bailey has been a member of The DSG since birth she was selected to a 3 year term on the Down Syndrome Board of Directors. She attends all planning meeting and helps make decisions on the direction/activity of upcoming DSG events and activities. She also volunteers at the DSG annual family picnic, the DSG annual convention, DS Herb Body Shop annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament and both raises money to walk in the Buddy Walk but also volunteers at the Information Table.
She was chosen to receive the DSG of Dallas advocate Scholarship to attend the National DS Convention in Denver Co. She loves to snow ski, paddle board, heath/Fitness is very important to her, avid readers, loves music & movies. Here is a “short” list of all the other things Bailey either is or has been part of:
